Mid-game roster for the current meta

TLDR;  Check out these common, high utility Pokemon for taking gyms:

  • Vaporeon
  • Jolteon
  • Parasect
  • Tangela
  • Dugtrio

In the previous post, I covered ideal late-game Pokemon to use against common gym leaders. This is certainly a good list to aspire to. But it’s not very practical for the here and now.

In this post, the cheat sheet shows weaker, more common Pokemon to take down gym leaders. They may not necessarily win the battle, but they’ll put up a heck of a fight.

A few things to point out:

  1. Blastoise has water moves, but it could have Ice Beam as a surprise. Jolteon is your backup.
  2. Slowbro also has a defensive Ice move. When that happens, you just have to eat the punishment.
  3. Against Nido royalty, try Dugtrio. Think of it like Ground vs Poison.
  4. Dragonite has some defensive moves, which makes Wigglytuff situational. You could use Jynx if you don’t have a Lapras/Cloyster/Dewgong yet.
